Round Cut Diamond

beautiful diamonds in all shapes and sizes

The Round Cut Diamond is perhaps the most popular of all cut diamonds. It is also known as the Brilliant Cut, the American Ideal Cut and the American Standard Cut. The design originated at the beginning of the 20th century when Marcel Tolkowsky designed what he considered the “perfect diamond shape”.  He even used the shape as part of his PhD. thesis in mathematics.

Following the standard set by Tolkowsky the ideal diameter for a Round Cut Diamond is between 52.4 to 57.5 percent, the thickness of the girdle (the stones widest part) should fall between thin and thick, the pavilion (from the girdle downwards) should be 42.2% and 43.8% and the crown angle (the angle from the girdle to the crown of the diamond) should be 33.7% and 35.8%.

The design and the techniques used to cut the diamond with its 57 facets ensure that the maximum amount of light is reflected back from the diamond. This makes it one of the most brilliant and scintillating of all certified loose diamonds. The Round Cut Diamond is particularly popular when set into an engagement ring where its brilliance makes the ring stand out and appear to dance in the light.   Ronit Diamonds has a large selection of GIA certified diamonds, at prices well beneath those quoted in the Rapaport diamond price list so that everyone, regardless of their budget, will be able to find a beautiful GIA certified diamond that will bring joy and happiness both to the giver and the receiver.
