Princess Cut Diamond

The Princess Cut has many, many variations. Some are very subtle and difficult to discern whist others vary extremely from what is thought of as the basic Princess Cut shape. The basic shape of a Princess Cut, Gia certified diamond is square or rectangular with a 90 degree angle at each corner. The diamond is renowned for its brilliance which is surpassed only by that of the Round Cut Diamond and is also a favorite for those happy couples wishing to purchase a certified loose diamond to set into an engagement ring.

The Princess cut is also known by names such as Squarillion, Quadrillion and others. “Baguettes” are small, box shaped diamonds belonging to the Princess cut family with stepped facets and tend to be slightly less brilliant than a conventional Princess cut diamond.

When considering a square of rectangular Princess cut diamond you should be aware that there are accepted ratios of length and width that you should be aware of: a square stone should have a 1 to 1.10 ratio. A rectangular stone should have a ratio of 1.5 to 2.0.
