Cushion Cut Diamond

The cushion cut is an old, traditional cut that is now coming back into popularity. It is also known as the pillow cut and the “candlelight” diamond as it was designed when electric lights where almost non-existent and diamonds where cut to sparkle in candlelight. The cushion cut diamond has rounded edges and larger than normal facets to enable it to catch the most available light and thus increase its brilliance.

A cushion cut certified loose diamond purchased from Ronit-Diamonds can be obtained in a variety of shapes ranging from square to rectangular. Length to width ratios are important and will determine the diamonds outline or shape when viewed from above. For further details, please contact one of our customer service representatives regarding the correct ration for the shape you want. As a general rule of thumb, for a square cushion cut diamond ratios of 1:1.05 are acceptable. For a rectangular cushion cut diamond you should look for a ratio greater than 1.15.

Cushion cut diamonds are a great alternative for the round cut diamond usually selected for engagement rings. Their ancient history makes them all the more romantic and they can be set either as a solitaire or with smaller, accenting diamonds. Because of their shape, cushion cut diamonds will usually require a minimum four pronged setting to ensure that the diamond sits securely in its setting. Larger cushion cut diamonds may require even more.
